New Ride

Here is a video of Harper's new favorite way to cruise around the house! She loves it - she smiles, squeals, and laughs the entire time!

Houston......

WE HAVE A TOOTH!!!!

Harper's first tooth popped through sometime Friday night or Saturday morning! Although doctors say that teething and fevers and ear aches do not go hand in hand, it seemed to be the case for Harper's first tooth. Or it could have just been a coincidence that she was not feeling well a few days before the tooth came, but I think the fever was probably brought on by teething. But what do I know?!?!

I don't have a picture to post because it's hard to capture - maybe I'll have to take a picture of her when she's crying because then you can really see it!

Along with her new tooth, Harper is doing a few other new things. She now 'growls' when she is mad - it's hilarious! And she is starting to scootch her knees underneath herself and move a little bit! She started doing both of these yesterday - along with rolling over from her back to her tummy! Hopefully it won't be too much longer and she'll be crawling - even though everyone tells me to enjoy the fact that she stays in one place for now!

Foto Friday

Here are a bunch of pictures that I took this week. I'm thinking of making 'Foto Friday' a weekly post. It'll be easier for me to make one big blog of photos from each week. I will still blog during the week too - but maybe not with pictures. We'll see.....

Harper rocking with mommy when she was sick :(

Daddy showering Harper with love to make her feel better

Feeling MUCH better!

Just another day in my saucer (she does this a lot now - it's so cute - but I think she's really pulling at hear ear)

I can no longer take close ups because Harper likes to grab the camera...

And pull on it....

Playing with a new toy - her closet is full of toys that she got for Christmas - now that she's getting older we're starting to get them out. NOTE: we did NOT place her hands in this position - she's ready to drive already - better hope Daddy doesn't catch you speeding!

It's not nice to talk with your mouth full, Harper!

Blue Hands = Fever = Ear Infection

My motherly instincts kicked in once again. Harper has been taking 2-3 hr naps all weekend and a little crabby, which is not like her. After she woke up for a 3 hour nap this morning, I fed her and she was very fussy. Then I changed her diaper and her clothes and she cried - which NEVER happens - she loves being changed - seriously! So I knew something was wrong. I noticed that her hands were bluish and it freaked me out because I had never seen them like that before. So I got on the internet and searched for causes and I found that it may be the start of a fever. So.....I took her temp and it was 100.4! Then I took it again a little later and it was 100.7! Harper was just at the doctor last week so I didn't want to bring her in again if it wasn't necessary. After talking to the nurse, they wanted Harper to come in to make sure she wasn't getting an ear infection or RSV. Poor thing has a mild ear infection in her right ear:( Luckily we caught it in time and quickly got her on some medicine so it doesn't get any worse or spread to the other ear. She has slept pretty much ALL day - I'm hoping she sleeps tonite! She has been a great snuggler today - reminds us of when she was a newborn :)

Big Kid Purchases

Last week Adam and I [or should I say Adam ;)] had to make some big purchases for our home. The motor in our old washing machine died and we decided that by the time we bought a new motor for it and paid for the labor for installation, we would have invested about half the money it costs for a new washer. So we loaded up the old washer and dryer and went to Sears to find something new. Nothing was wrong with the dryer, but we figured we might as well get a new one because sooner or later that would quit working too. My aunt and uncle gave us the washer and dryer, so we really weren't out any money. All appliances at Sears were 15% off and they offered zero payments and zero interest for one year. Adam and I decided that we wanted to get something energy efficient so we could get a rebate back from our electric company, in addition to lower our monthly electric bill.

We ended up buying a Kenmore washer and dryer, which are both energy star rated. My favorite thing about the washing machine is that it automatically senses the load size for you, so no water is wasted! My favorite thing about the dryer is that is has a Moisture Sensor setting that automatically shuts off when your clothes are dry - this saves energy and hopefully no more shrinking of our clothes! So far I have no complaints about the appliances! I just wish they came with a person that would fold and put the clothes away!

Oh yeah - we also had to buy a new water softener. When it rains, it pours! Hopefully no more big purchases for the year!

Chili

I'm back! Sorry for the lack of blogs this week. Adam was in Des Moines all week for a law enforcement class so it was just Harper and I at home. Nothing exciting happened. My goal for the week was to give Harper my undivided attention - no computer, TV, etc. unless she was sleeping. We had a fun week - lots of bonding time - we played a lot, practiced sitting up and rolling over, laughed a lot, and missed daddy! We are so happy to have him home!

Being that it's the Super Bowl tomorrow, I thought I'd post a recipe for a delicious chili recipe! Seriously - it's yummy! It has a small sweet flavor going on in the background - but it's not over powering. You will definitely want to write this recipe down. I promise that you won't be disappointed!

CHILI

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 chopped green pepper
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 cans stewed tomatoes
  • 1 can (14-15 oz) kidney beans
  • 1 can (14-15 oz) chili beans
  • 2 pkgs chili seasoning
  • 1 (46 oz) can V-8 vegetable juice
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 cup honey BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey

Directions: cook onion and green pepper with ground beef. Drain. Mix all ingredients together until heated and eat. Perfect for the crockpot!
