Holiday Divided

Adam and I spent the Thanksgiving holiday at work this year.  (Working holidays is the one major downfall of having a 24/7 profession.)

Due to our crazy work schedules, we celebrated Thanksgiving with our immediate families apart.  I was unable to attend his family's get together, and Adam was unable to attend mine.

It was different, but something we are used to.

Good news though - we have Christmas Eve off together and Christmas day!!!

Anyways....my point of this post was to share how thankful we are for our jobs, despite having to work on Thanksgiving.  We both have jobs that we enjoy, co-workers that we consider friends, and a profession that hopefully others are thankful for as well.

Hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving, doing whatever it is you do.

Check back soon for our 3rd annual Christmas Tree Farm photos!

Big Girl Car Seat

We have purchased Harper's 3rd and final car seat.  Yay!  I guess when you become a parent, these milestones are exciting....

Harper still fits in her old car seat, but was fitted to the largest setting, and even that was becoming a bit snug with her winter coat on.  Target was having a sale on the Graco Turbo Highback Booster that we couldn't pass up.  The car seat was only $30, a 40% discount from the original price of $49.99.

Harper just meets the height requirement of 38", but surpasses the weight of 30 lbs.  When Harper gets older the back comes off and can be used as a booster seat.

The sale lasts through this weekend - so go grab one before it gets crazy on Black Friday!

ENT Visit

Harper had a visit with the ENT today to get a second and more educated opinion on the size of her tonsils.
We received great news as she does not have to have her tonsils out at this point!
As long as Harper remains asymptomatic (no recurrent infections, periods of apnea while asleep, choking on food, and/or excess snoring) then the doctor sees no need to remove her tonsils.  He did agree that they were large, but reassured us that she will "grow into them."  Let's hope he's right!

**On a side note, Harper weighed 40 lbs today and is 38" tall - she is a beast!  Time to start cutting back on the apple juice and fruit snacks!

Halloween 2012

Harper was Scooby-Doo this year for Halloween.  Her first choice was to be Velma, but the costume was just not warm enough for the cool Iowa fall nights.  She happily settled for Scooby as soon as she tried the costume on at the store.  In fact, Harper was so thrilled with the costume that she refused to take it off and crawled around the store on all fours barking like a dog. (she even wore it in the car seat on the way home!)  This is SO unlike her character since she is so shy, but it's nice to see her starting to come out of her shell.  Harper also had a Scooby Doo candy pail to accompany her get-up, compliments of McDonalds.  I love that McDonalds still gives out Halloween pails in place of the traditions Happy Meals packaging for the holiday.  I remember getting one as a kid, so it was neat for me to do this with Harper as well.

Harper did a great job this year saying "trick-or-treat" at every house except for two.  Last year she didn't say a peep.  I really think that preschool has helped her with her social skills.  We walked around the neighborhood for about 30-40 minutes before we headed back home to hand out our own candy.  Harper had just as much fun handing out candy to everyone and even handed it out "by herself" towards the end.

My little Scooby-Doo
I was caught off guard this year when I found out on Tuesday (10/30) that trick-or-treating was to start in 3 hours.  We were planning on carving pumpkins on Tuesday and then trick-or-treating on Wednesday.  So when I picked Harper up from preschool on Tuesday, I had 2 hours to carve a pumpkin and get her ready.  Adam was not at home so I had the pleasure of carving a pumpkin on my own with a 3-year-old.  We had every intention on carving a Cinderella pumpkin, but settled for a simple design because of the limited time.

Isn't it cute?!
It was Harper's turn to bring treats to preschool last week.  The "teacher" in me came out and I wanted to bring something fun for the kids.  Thanks to an idea I saw on pinterest, I drew jack-o-lantern faces on mandarin orange cups.  Harper's teacher and the kids loved them.

Lastly, I tried making a fun Halloween supper, so we had mummy dogs and dirt cups.  Harper really didn't make the connection, so we'll try again next year.  I want to create as many memories and traditions with my family as possible.  It's the little things in life that mean the greatest!

VOTE!!!!

Happy Election Day!!!!!!!!!

Today ends the political ads - hallelujah!!!!

Don't forget to vote today - YOU can make a difference.

In my opinion, if you decide to deny your right to vote, then you lose your right to complain about the government!

Still not sure who to vote for?  Visit my post below to take a few quizzes to help you decide.

One more Ad

Just in case you haven't had enough of the political ads.......

I saw this on Facebook and couldn't agree more.  Obama is for gay marriage and Romney opposes it.

I personally don't understand why marriage has to be between a man and a woman.  What does it matter?  Don't even think about throwing some bible verse at me, because our politicians and government clearly do not follow the 'Good Word.'

One minute they're making it illegal to pray and use 'God' in the Pledge of Allegiance at school and then the next minute they're trying to shove the bible in our face saying that "the bible states that marriage is between a man and woman......" blah blah blah

Okay, I'm done now.  Go vote tomorrow!

PS - I'm registered as an Independent - I'm not in anyway advocating for the Democrats.  I'm truly on the fence still at this point.

Tangles

The other day Harper and I were having a conversation about her classmates.

I asked who one particular girl was and she replied,  "the one with tangly hair."

I was puzzled for a few days until I saw this girl with "tangly hair," turns out she has a beautiful head of curls :)
